Situated at an elevation of 2065 meters (6,775 feet) above sea level, Yangkhil Resort is of one and half kilometers west of Trongsa town and the Dzong. The short walking distance per se is ideal for easy evening stroll to the town.

Places of Interest in the Vicinity

Kuenga Rabten which served as the winter palace for Druk Gyalpo Jigme Wangchuk, the second King is approximately 24 kilometers from the Resort. The building has a superb wood work and decorations. At present part of the palace is used as library. The top floor has an alter room with status of Shakyamuni, Shabdrung and Guru Rimpoche. From the palace, one can take a hike up to the road and further along the village to a nunnery. The duration of the hike is about 25 minutes, with gradual ascent. There are about 80 nuns residing at the nunnery and one can visit their hostel, the main shrine and their dinning hall.

From the resort hiking uphill till the trail of semji village is ideal for bird watching. Weather permiting, hiking through the dense forest provide ample opportunity to see various species of birds. At semji, one can visit the village and subsequently continue hiking downhill till the high way, where your transportation can shuttle you back to the Resort. The whole hiking trip takes approximately 4-5 hours.

 

Another place of interest is Taa-phaag Goenpa (monastery), which is 4 hours, walking time with gradual ascents. Hike provides a bird-eye view of the Black Mountains, Trongsa valley, Kuengarebten and other nearby valleys. The monastery serves as a retreat center for the monks of the Trongsa Dzong.
